Once around the Supernatural block -- Recs

I dove into Supernatural head first (see previous post), and of course I didn't stop at just watching the show. *g* Here are a few of my first and favorite findings (mostly Dean/Castiel):

Thursday's Child by strangeandcharm
This fic is epic: 114k words. It's an AU told from Castiel's point of view. Imagine that in 5x04 "The End" Dean manages to kill the devil and Sam along with him. What happens next? What is the world like, post-apocalypse? What are the remaining demons up to? How does Dean deal? How Castiel?
This is not for the faint of heart. There's physical injury, drug-abuse and generally angst-heavy stuff going on. But it's SO GOOD. The plot is clever and takes surprising turns, the chracterization is fabulous, and the development of Dean and Cas' relationship alternately filled me with sadness and joy. Highly recommended.


Browser History and Bookmarks by entangled_now
Now, this is just fun! Sam is miffed to find out that suddenly Dean and Castiel get all the fanfic action in the fictional Supernatural fandom, and that no one writes Sam-slash-Dean anymore. The second part finds Dean trying to explain the concept to Castiel. So. Funny. (ETA: There's more, but Sam/Lucifer kinda freaks me out, which is why I stopped after the first two. ETA2: Scratch that. I-- kind of peeked, and then I got over it. Because this is freaking hilarious all the way through.)


The Way It Is by JanissaII (Dean/OMC)
They call it 'Weechester', right? When it's all about young Sam and Dean? Well, this is Weechester then.
I love this fic for the fabulous teen!(Dean&Sam) interaction alone.

The Ten Commandments Don't Apply To Angels by copperbadge, read by sadcypress
This is a fairly short podfic (~20 mins), but I love the idea, the writing, the reading, and Castiel to pieces in this.


And I Wake Up Blind, Like My Dreams Were Too Bright by strangeandcharm, read by FayJay (~120 mins)
This is a unique and beautiful story, told from Jimmy's point of view while he's trapped in his own body with an amnesiac Castiel. The reading is fantastic. The whole podfic is an amazing ride from start to finish.


In The Silence Afterward by ibroketuesday, read by fullondazzled (~75 mins)
This-- This taught me to always check the story text and the warnings before I listen to a podfic. On the other hand, I probably wouldn't have listened to this, which would have been a shame. Still, it BROKE me. This fic is beautifully written and wonderfully read, and everything works so well and rings so true. But it broke me.
It goes AU after the end of season four, with Lucifer hot on Sam and Dean's heels. And then-- things happen.

Have you checked out Fayjay's Consequences of Falling podfic?

That's the only one I can think of - but I'm not into the fandom at all and I loved it anyway. It's Dean/Castiel.

Oh! Also, The Incestuous Courtship of the Antichrist's Bride - *looks it up* Huh, that's also read by Fayjay, I'm a fan! The title kind of gives you an idea of what the fic'll be like :)

Yes, I've got "The Consequences of Falling". I stopped listening somewhere in the middle of the second part, I think. Something put me off, although I don't remember what that was exactly. I had other things to listen to at the time, so I skipped the rest. But a second try is on my to-do list.

Thanks for the rec! I snuck a peek at the fic and it really seems to be hilarious. But the brother-on-brother thing is still my major squick, in a serious stick-a-fork-in-my-eye kind of way. So that's a no-go for me, then.

Oh, I know, the Wincest thing pretty much creeps me out as well. But I really enjoyed the incestuous courtship, and I think it's because both Sam and Dean are utterly creeped out by the incest idea as well. Which helped. You could always listen to the first 80% and switch it off when it gets to the sex - it's all hilarious.
